Co-Mediation Is Helpful When Children Are Involved

Working with a mediator during a divorce is very efficient and affordable.  Mediators work with the Parties to open the lines of communication and help them move forward with their lives.

Often the Parties are in disagreement about the children – how much time each should spend with them, where they should go to school, what activities they should be involved in, etc.  These issues can be the most contested aspects of a divorce.  Unfortunately, some parents use their children as weapons against each other.  This misplaced anger only hurts the children more.  Divorce is difficult enough for children to understand without parents going to war over every aspect of co-parenting.

In situations like this, a co-mediator with a background in child development and family therapy is invaluable.  An attorney/mediator can guide the parties through the legal maze of divorce and help with communication.  Bringing a co-mediator with specialized knowledge of divorce when children are involved enhances the process and is extremely beneficial to all parties involved, most especially the children.  He/She can meet with the children and hear their perspectives.  This information can be brought into the mediation so that parents can make fully-informed decisions.  Child development information provides guidance to the parents as they discuss what is best for their children during the divorce and after.
