How Much Money Will You Save With Mediation?
Did you know that the average cost for a divorce where both parties hire attorneys and have a few court appearances can be between $10,000-15,000? If they fight and go to court repeatedly, it can cost close to $25,000-30,000. It can cost even more (upwards of $50,000-75,000) if they go to trial or appeal the decision.
When a couple works with a mediator to settle their differences and thus, avoid court, the cost is closer to $5000.
As I often tell my clients, whose child do you want to put through college, your attorney’s or your own? Divorce is a difficult process as it is. Couples do not need to be compounding their stress by worrying about its cost. As they work to divide their assets and debts and build separate lives, there are enough extra expenses to be concerned about. They do not need to be fretting about how to pay their attorney. They need to keep their money to rebuild their lives and support their children.
